The story:

In September 1991, two hikers crossing a glacier on the Austrian-Italian border found a body face-down in the meltwater and assumed it was a lost mountaineer. It was a man who died around 3300 BCE. The ice had preserved him almost completely skin, stomach contents, clothing, tattoos, and everything he was carrying: a copper axe, a longbow, a quiver of arrows, birch-bark containers, a flint knife, and tinder fungus for starting fires. Ten years after his discovery, a CT scan found an arrowhead lodged in his left shoulder. He had been shot from behind, and he bled out on the mountain. Ötzi is the oldest known murder victim in Europe, and the most thoroughly examined human being in the archaeological record.
