Mors Medica - Balance In All Things
BALANCE IN ALL THINGS
Mors Medica - Apothecary & Remedies. Europa, circa 1347.
From MORS MEDICA - apothecary, remedy, and the trade in endings. Ornate engraved art, heavyweight boxy fit, printed on demand.
The story:
The medieval apothecary sold cures, poisons, and everything in between, often from the same shelf. Medicine ran on humoral theory: health was a balance of four fluids, and illness meant one had grown excessive. The treatment was to remove it by bleeding, blistering, purging, or sweating. The same mercury sold as a remedy could kill; the same belladonna sold to dilate a woman's eyes could stop her heart. Practitioners were not frauds, mostly. They were working from a model of the body that was entirely wrong, with total confidence, for roughly two thousand years.
