The history:
Chen Tao — "True Way" — was a Taiwanese UFO group led by Hon-Ming Chen that relocated to Garland, Texas, in the 1990s. Chen announced that God would appear on television channel 18 at 12:01 AM on March 25, 1998, and shortly after would descend in a flying saucer to rescue his followers. Around 150 members moved to the Dallas suburb, some in matching white clothing and cowboy hats, and waited. Channel 18 showed only static. When nothing happened, Chen offered to be stoned or crucified to atone for the error. The group declined the offer, and most members quietly went home.
