The history:

The Branch Davidians were an offshoot religious group led by David Koresh at the Mount Carmel Center near Waco, Texas. Koresh preached an apocalyptic doctrine and positioned himself as a final prophet. In 1993, a botched federal raid over weapons charges escalated into a 51-day standoff between the group and the ATF and FBI. It ended on April 19, 1993, when the compound caught fire during a tear-gas assault; around 76 people died, including Koresh and many children. The event became a landmark in American debates over federal force, and its anniversary was later cited as motivation for the Oklahoma City bombing.
